SWOSSAA Volleyball Power Rankings – Christmas Edition
Seniors:
#1 Chatham-Kent 3A
Off to a good start. Return the core of last year’s team.
#2 Amherst 2A
Good start to the season with 4-0 mark in the league. Should get better when they get all their players healthy.
#3 Belle River 3A
The new kids on the block have some skills but how will they play when the pressure is turned up is the question. They will get much better if they become more consistent.
#4 Holy Name 4A
Good start to the league with a 3-0 record, but have had poor showing so far in tournaments.
#5 St. Joseph’s 3A
A bit of Jeckyl and Hyde here. They will go as far as their passing and defence will take them. When they pass the ball, they look good, when they do not, they look pretty average.
#6 John McGregor 2A
Disciplined team that is coached well and can never be taken lightly. They can pressure teams serve receives with their aggressive serving.
#7 Essex 2A
They have a lot of veterans with travel experience. Had a poor showing in their league game vs Belle River, but should be one of the better teams in the league by the end of the season.
#8 Massey 4A
Have some good athletes but maybe not enough to challenge for the league title.
#9 St. Anne's 4A
Off to a slow start (O-3), but have played a difficult schedule so far. They should improve in the New Year.
#10 Forster 1A
They are in first place in Tier 2.
Juniors:
#1 Sandwich 3A
Sitting in their usual spot on top of the junior league.
#2 Belle River 3A
Rolled into Raiderville and knocked off pre-season favourite Essex.
#3 Chatham-Kent 3A
This is a volleyball school that always puts good teams on the floor.
#4 Essex 2A
This team is loaded with travel grade 10 players. They should not lose again this season.
#5 St. Anne’s 4A
They have an athletic group of athletes that will improve throughout the year. They are definitely the 4A favourites.
#6 Brennan 2A
Off to a decent start in league play. They should improve as the year goes on.
#7 St. Joseph's 3A
They have squeaked out a couple league matches, but there is not too much upside with this team. I cannot see them competing with Belle River and Sandwich in February.
#8 Amherst 2A
Up and down team. They have a few decent athletes, but they lack volleyball experience. This Jr team lacks size.
#9 Massey 4A
The Mustangs have looked pretty average so far and will need to step it up in the new year to compete with St. Anne’s in 4A.
#10 Kingsville 2A
Will probably emerge as the team to beat coming out of Tier 2. All the Tier 2 Jr matches have been extremely competitive so far.
Interesting to see how they match up with the Tier 1 teams in the playoffs.
